Nose Hill permanent courses

There are currently two permanent courses on Nose Hill in Calgary but they do not have control markers.

The Nose Hill map these two courses are based on is 15 years old, so expect that reality will be different from what the map portrays. Also, we can't ensure that conditions will always be suitable for running these courses. Please use your own judgement and common sense.

Seven Summits 12.4km 345m climb

Notes: power line at control 2 & 3 is no longer there; all controls are on the top of a hill except for control 4 which is on the east side of pond.

Seven Boulders 6.5km 110m climb

Seven Boulders is a shorter version of Seven Summits.

Canmore Nordic Centre permanent courses

The Canmore Nordic Center, Trial Sports and the Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Clun have teamed up to offer permanent orienteering at the Nordic Centre. This is a great opportunity for runners, skiers and bikers who want to add some variety to their training.

There are three courses of increasing difficulty (Green, Blue, and Black) for runners, walkers and hikers. In addition there is a fourth course for mountain bikers. The courses will change three times each year - in the spring, summer, and fall - to give people new challenges and to take them into different parts of the park. A special race will be held on the opening day of each course.

The great thing about the permanent courses is that they allow individuals and groups to learn and enjoy orienteering on their own schedule - the courses are always available. We hope that this ease of access will attract more people to take part in the sport and develop more orienteering skills.

To try the permanent orienteering courses, visit Trail Sports at the Canmore Nordic Centre and for $5, will receive an orienteering map (to keep) and the rental of an electronic timing chip and compass. When you have completed the course your time will be recorded by Trail Sports. The fastest times will be shown on the web - so we encourage people to return to try and beat their fastest time.
